Sneakerology X Reebok Reverse Jams

The Sneakerology Reverse Jam is a collaboration between Sneakerology 101 and Reebok. The goals of the project were to commemorate the first accredited course on sneaker culture as well as to raise awareness about the importance of education in today’s youth. Working together with the Lifestyle team at Reebok, I helped design and market this limited edition shoe that was sold exclusively at Carnegie Mellon University.

Reebok produced only 101 pairs, which went on sale April 15, 2009 at Kicksburgh. They sold out in little over an hour and all proceeds were donated to the Hill House Association.

Design and Inspiration

The Sneakerology Reverse Jam draws inspiration from traditional educational settings as well as Carnegie Mellon. The slate nubuck, chalk yellow side-stripes, and wool felt tongue pay homage to the blackboard, chalk, and eraser; themes known to every classroom. Carnegie Mellon’s school color accent the sneaker as seen in the outsole, stitching, and laces while the Sneakerology logo adorns the heel collar. The collaboration extends to the insole which is a custom plaid embedded with a brief lesson on the history of the Reverse Jam. The plaid itself relates back to Andrew Carnegie’s Scottish heritage.

Celebrating Education in the Community

The theme of this sneaker is education not only at Carnegie Mellon but also in the greater Pittsburgh area. All proceeds from the sale of this limited edition sneaker went directly to the Hill House Association, a nonprofit that provides support for local residents by offering youth programs such as tutoring and homework assistance. We were able to raise over $5,000 in support of this great organization.
